Everyone loves the three-day weekend that Labor Day brings, but spending this year as a candidate has made me reflect more on the origins and meaning behind this holiday.
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, but was the culmination of labor efforts over the course of years. We thank labor movements for the eight-hour work day and the five day work week. Through their persistence, workers today have better, more holistic lives than they used to.
We still have a lot of work to do. As your representative, I will work with unions to ensure that both our workers and our vibrant small businesses thrive in Missouri. Have a great Labor Day, and remember that we CAN have the world we dream of. We just have to work for it.
